Job Description:
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Summary:Camp counselors work together as a team to create a
connection between campers and animals that will impact the campers
desire to care for the natural world. They lead lessons and
activities both indoors and outdoors while monitoring camper safety
and participation. Counselors also are responsible for creating an
exciting and welcoming environment through their enthusiastic
pursuit of accomplishing camp goals and inspiring campers in the
natural world. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:• Supervises
the safety of campers• Collaborate on lesson preparation as
directed by the curriculum and engage in educational discussions
throughout camp• Responsible for their group during the camp day,
participating in all activities and monitoring camper participation
and enjoyment• Must work with other counselors as a team•
Respectful of camp schedule and is prompt and on time to
activities• Assists with camper drop off and pick up
Qualifications:• Must be at least 16 years of age• Must commit to
working at least 7 weeks between the dates of June 1 - August 7•
Able to attend required staff training on May 27 and 28 • Enjoys
working with children• Comfortable speaking in front of groups•
Demonstrates enthusiasm for goals and mission of Zoo Camp• Strong
leadership and collaborative skills• Able to work independently and
on a team• Organizational and multi-tasking skills• Customer
service skills Education and Experience:• High school sophomore or
higher• Pursuing or completion of a Bachelor’s degree in education
or science related field is preferred• Experience teaching in a
formal or informal setting preferred• Experience working with
children ages 4-10 years Physical demands:Counselors will be
outside, leading and participating in a variety of physical
activities with campers. Counselors should be able to tolerate the
heat for long periods of time, and able to walk throughout the Zoo
multiple times a day. Work Environment:The work environment

hours (holidays and weekends)• Ability to work outdoors in heat,
