Southwire's Wire & Cable group plays a critical role in servicing the rapid growth of residential, commercial, industrial, OEM, and utility markets in North America and internationally. Southwire's CableTechSupportTM Services was established with a mission statement of providing the best-in-class consultation and technical services in the wire & cable industry. The group utilizes Customer Relationship Management system to track and to prioritize over 12,000 engineering tickets per year. The current team consists of thirteen members featuring multiple engineering disciplines with a combined professional experience of 300 years. We are looking for Manager of Applications Engineering with a career path in the cable applications, field support, business development, and service innovation of wire & cable products.Manager of engineering with an action oriented, mindset and focus on reaching company objectives. The Manager of engineering must play an active role in the technical support for wire and cable products and completion of projects, meet and report back to VP level, plan and monitor work schedules, and work with multiple and diverse teams such sales areas, operations, product development, manufacturing, specifications, and compliance. The responsibilities include aligning engineering activities and projects with company objectives, providing expert guidance and support, data center, renewable energy (wind, solar, BESS), automotive, electric vehicle charging, telecommunication/5G, sustainable power generation, petrochemical, industrial, mass transit, agriculture, lighting, healthcare, water treatment, factory automation, OEM, mining, government/military/port authority, infrastructure expansions, strategic undergrounding, storm response, grid modernization projects and International markets.This experienced individual will interface directly with diverse customers, drive brainstorming sessions, lead troubleshooting efforts, while partnering with agents, distributors, inside & outside sales, operation, and product management to deliver technical support to retail/DIY users, electricians, contractors, standards engineers, utility owners, and EPCs.Description of Duties & ResponsibilitiesDescription of Duties/Responsibilities:
-Manage a group of engineers to determine the most effective means of technical support/customer service/process improvement. Aligned objectives of the individual contributors to the company-wide goals.
-Retain talent, hire, and develop team members.
-Reduce ticket backlog and improve internal and external customer response lead time by monitoring and priortizing team's workload via a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and its custom reports on a daily basis.
-Organize and maintain the engineering reference folders and the codes & standard library via SharePoint to build orgnaizational capability.
-Create new and revise existing engineering spec documents and spec libaries online to promote each emerging vertical market
-Identify customer needs and requirements relative to product functionalities, applications, and performance for Infrastructure, Industrial/OEM, and Utility markets.
-Lead the application support for all emerging vertical markets including Renewable, EV infrastructure, Telecom/5G, Transit, Ports & Terminals. Utilize extensive application knowledge of all wire & cable products and the industry codes & standards, including NEC/NFPA, NEMA, UL, IEEE, CSA, ICEA, AEIC, NESC, ASTM, NOM, NMX, NBR, NTC, BS, VDE, and IEC to support customers and to create technical reference documents.
-Coordinate and execute technical requests for RFI/RFQ and bid proposals to gain customer approvals specifically related to government-funded projects to support bipartisan infrastructure bills.
-Collaborate with quality and operations to mitigate customer compliants via PE-stamped engineering letters and utilize tools to track financial impact for leadership report out.
-Expand CableTechSupportTM Services' brand name by authoring whitepapers, publishing industry articles, hosting live webinars and serving as keynote speakers
-Develop calulation tools for internal and external users to promote Southwire products and services.
-Create complexed cable designs, conduct advanced electrical modeling, and work directly with end users to specify sustainable products and services.Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
-Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering
-Professional Engineer (PE) license is required
-10+ years application support and/or product engineering experience in the Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, Manufacturing, or Electrical Industry is required
-Cable manufacturing & quality experience is preferred
-Ability to travel domestic and internationally to technical conferences, job sites, and plant locations as needed (Up to 50 percent travel).
