Job Description:
General Manager IAO1031Purpose:The purpose of the General
Manager I (GM) position is to manage a QSR restaurant or a small
cluster of nearby restaurants or points-of-sale with sales
generally up to $5M. The GM ensures the restaurant is clean,
staffed, open for business, and operates according to high
operational and financial standards. The GM uses broad discretion
and judgment to make leadership decisions and is responsible for
the overall success of the restaurant.Essential Functions:
- Open and Close: Ensures all assistant managers and staff
recognize the importance of closing the restaurant to prepare for
opening, holding Shift Managers accountable for executing all
closing and opening checklists/requirements.
- Staffing/Deployment: Understands, adopts, and demonstrates
manager behaviors that foster employee engagement. Deploys staff
and resources to maximize profitability and accepts P&L
responsibility. Assigns tasks, prepares schedules, and ensures
shift coverage. Provides support, coaching, and encouragement to
staff. Handles hiring, termination, promotion decisions, and
promotes HMSHost as an employer of choice. Ensures diversity and
inclusion, manages onboarding/offboarding, and monitors financial
and operational data to meet unit goals. Recognizes staff
contributions and supports employee engagement initiatives.
- Product Availability/Working Equipment: Manages daily ordering,
stock levels, receiving, invoice processing, and vendor contact for
supply issues. Maintains proficiency in management systems and
oversees equipment maintenance. Responds to audits and minimizes
waste.
- Brand Knowledge/Proficiency: Assesses staff skills, conducts
training, embraces technology, and maintains knowledge of brand
standards, agreements, and procedures. Develops strategies to
increase revenue.
- Visual/Vibe/Appeal: Manages daily activities, resolves customer
and staff issues, provides ongoing feedback, and implements
marketing programs to drive revenue.
- Safety: Ensures compliance with safety and health standards,
trains staff on wellness and COVID-19 protocols, and enforces
safety procedures.Reporting Relationship and Other Information:This
role is classified as an exempt position under the Fair Labor
Standards Act, typically reporting to the Director of Operations or
similar leadership. The schedule varies, requiring presence during
different shifts.Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and
Work Environment:
- Minimum of 3 years of restaurant P&L management experience,
with 5-7 years of overall restaurant experience in similar
types.
- Food Service Management or Culinary program graduation may
substitute for some experience.
- Strong team management, delegation, issue resolution skills,
and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of HMSHost policies, standards, and operations, or
the ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to communicate effectively and understand menus and
