Finance - Family of Companies (the "Company") is currently seeking
a Corporate & Litigation Counsel ("Corporate Counsel") to perform a
wide range of legal functions, such as handling pre-suit matters,
managing litigation matters (e.g. defense of consumer claims,
defense and prosecution of B2B disputes, and some employment
litigation) and outside counsel, drafting responses to regulators,
reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts, providing guidance
to the Company's Human Resources and Human Capital departments,
and, as needed, perform various other legal tasks, such as legal
research and legal projects.Reporting to the Vice President and
Associate General Counsel, the Corporate Counsel will work with a
talented and sophisticated group of legal professionals to perform
the job duties. As a successful candidate, you will use your strong
attention to detail and the ability to prioritize deadlines, to
execute multiple legal tasks, drive strategic and aggressive
litigation strategies, and consider business impacts when handling
any legal matter. You will also be able to communicate efficiently
and with respect and appreciate that each team member serves a
valuable and specific purpose - and when everyone works together,
the team provides excellent service to its business partners. You
are a self-starter and can work well under pressure, both
independently and as part of a collaborative team. Some travel
(domestic) may be required. The position is based in Carrollton,
Texas. Essential Responsibilities
- Manage outside counsel in relation to certain complex legal
matters and associated spend.
- Manage certain litigation matters being handled by outside
counsel by coordinating and directing and driving sophisticated and
complex case strategy, partnering with outside counsel to
draft/edit pleadings, review, revise, and complete discovery,
performing legal research as necessary, interview, and prepare
witnesses for depositions and trial, and negotiating
settlements.
- Assist members of the Legal Department in administration of
various litigation and corporate matters, discovery projects,
document review, and legal research on a variety of issues,
including compliance and regulatory matters.
- Coordinate and direct a team of sophisticated individuals when
responding to pre-suit matters, including attorney letters,
customer complaints, and regulatory responses.
- Responsible for identifying, assessing, and pursuing claims and
affirmative recoveries.
- Assist legal management in the development of policies and
procedures to mitigate corporate risk.
- Support the Vice President, Associate General Counsel and the
Vice President, Strategic Legal Operations, as needed.
- Review of business/commercial contracts.
- Assist with employment-related litigation matters. Minimum
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 to 6 years relevant legal experience
- Membership in good standing in at least one state bar in U.S.
required
- Litigation experience required (commercial litigation
experience preferred)
- Proficient with the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Proficient with legal research databases, such as Westlaw
- Ability to research in a thorough and effective manner
- Impeccable, clear, and concise communication, both written and
verbal
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong factual and legal analytical abilities
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals of varied
backgrounds and skill levels
- Comfortable with aggressive and proactive legal strategies
- Ability to maintain positive attitude in the face of
adversity
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and be computer
literate
- Work in a collegial, fast paced, environment
- Willing to learn and grow by being a self-starter and accepting
constructive feedback from anyone who offers such feedback

- Sense of humor
- Physical demands for this position frequently include: the
ability to remain in a stationary position, move about freely
inside and occasionally outside of the office, and the operation of
