Overview

Provides practical, consistent and proactive support, direction and advice to other managers on HR procedure, policy, best practice, employment rewards, benefits and legislation to facilitate in achieving the objectives and targets of an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Review and revise HR policies in compliance with changing or new legislation.
  • Develop and revise HR policies in compliance with changing or new legislation.
  • Keep managers informed on anti-discrimination regulations.
  • Plan, direct, supervise and coordinate work activities of subordinates and staff relating to employment, recruitment, compensation, labor relations and employee relations.
  • Maintain records and compile statistical reports concerning personnel-related data such as hires, transfers, terminations, compensation and turnover stats.
  • Prepare and follow budgets for the Human Resources department.
  • Oversee the evaluation, classification and rating of occupations and job positions.
  • Develop and/or administer special projects in areas such as pay equality and employee rewards programs.
  • Receive employee complaints and act accordingly to resolve issues.
  • Counsel and assist Management with employee discipline and terminations as they relate to Company policy and employment law.
  • Utilize outside resources in order to monitor issues and concerns in employment law, communicating potential changes to senior management.
  • Train prospective supervisors in conflict management, leadership and employee relations.
  • Conduct annual site visits to all major sites to maintain and/or improve employee relationships.
  • Compliance with ELS Safety program policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the employer's insurance policy.
  • Work with HR Managers from sister companies to find and develop mutual policies.
  • Perform additional duties/assignments as may be required by management.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and 15 years' experience HR Management or Bachelor's Degree and 5 years' experience in HR management.
  • 5+ years' experience working in a multi-state environment.
  • 5+ years' experience working in both union and non-union environments.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • 3+ years' experience in conducting training in a classroom environment.
  • 1+ years' experience with Affirmative Action programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 7+ years' experience in HR management
  • PHR or SPHR Certification
  • 8+ years' working in a multi-state environment
  • 8+ years' working in both union and non-union environments.
  • 5+ years' experience in union negotiations.
  • 3+ years' experience with Affirmative Action programs

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence and persuade management level employees
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate to interpret and explain written and statistical data to a wide range of audiences.
  • Attention to detail a must.
  • Ability to convey difficult and challenging information to managers.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize work.

Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office, HRIS and Timekeeping software

Certificates & Licenses: PHR or SPHR Certificates preferred.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
