What you will be doing

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans and designs database structure; facilitates the development,
implementation, and administration of database systems for the
acquisition, storage, and retrieval of data according to the
product line requirements.
Develops an end-to-end systems vision of all products to see how a
logical design will translate into one or more physical databases,
and how the data will flow through the successive stages involved.
Addresses issues of Data Migration--Validation, Clean-up, Mapping
and Data Dictionaries development.
Acts as top level product architecture contributor/specialist for
AmerisourceBergen Technology Group, will provide consultation to
senior management on product design and application development,
and on complex software development projects.
Installs and configures the database application and monitors and
analyzes database system performance and security options; provides
technical leadership in the areas of data management strategy
(OLTP, OLCP, OLAP), modeling, and performance engineering.
Develops and maintains documents and standards; develops database
backup and recovery procedures and policies, creates database
migration and conversion scripts and schema management in both
development and production environments; assists in and reviews all
major data related models and designs; drives the creation and
implementation of a meta-data strategy.
Maintains a set of detailed documents that accurately depict the
data environment, including the data model and data dictionary.
Collaborates with software architects, software development
managers, business analysts, database administrators, and interface
developers to ensure the delivery of data solutions meet business
needs and technical goals.
Supports and coordinates work with Software Development, Hardware
Development, Product Quality Assurance, Information Design
Services, Customer Support and Services, Implementation, Marketing
and Sales, and all other ABTG groups.
Functions as task, project, or team leader when assigned;
represents the organization on project teams and may perform
technical project leadership roles while fostering teamwork and
collaboration within and across work groups.
Responsible for developing or executing project plans and schedules
and technical approach during project inception and ensuring that
approach is used across all projects supporting the achievement of
the data architecture; balances the theoretical data modeling with
realistic implementation and performance needs.
Provides input for Software Development budgeting and
scheduling.
Provides input for Software Development software and hardware
purchases.
Contributes to the development and achievement of ABTG
organizational goals and objectives.
Performs related duties as assigned.
What your background should look like
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Normally requires broad training in fields such as business
administration, accountancy, sales, marketing, computer sciences,
database architecture and administration or similar vocations
generally obtained through completion of a four year bachelor's
degree program and professional DBA training or equivalent
combination of experience and education. Normally requires four (4)
to seven (7) years directly related and progressively responsible
experience.
MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Thorough knowledge and understanding of business principles,
processes and technology
Knowledge of physical database structures; ability to analyze,
manage, tune databases for performance; knowledge of relational
database concepts; disaster recovery; best practices
Thorough knowledge of MS SQL Server (2000 and 2005) and Oracle
Server, relational database design and administration
Good analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills to evaluate
business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate
solutions
Good interpersonal skills; good relationship building skills
Good leadership skills; strong staff development skills
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; good
group presentation skills
Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
Ability to use office equipment such as printers, copiers, and
faxes
Knowledge of computers to operative effectively with Microsoft
Office Suite of applications; PCs, application servers, information
servers, remote access servers, LAN/WAN network environments;
Windows 2003 server, Windows 2000, Windows XP, UNIX, Microsoft SQL
Server 2000 and 2005, Oracle
