Finance - Family of Companies is looking for a Data Science Intern
to join the team and identify business challenges and opportunities
for improvement as well as utilize analysis based on mining
available consumer, collateral, and transaction information and
data to provide strategic and tactical recommendations. You will
support the organization's efforts in better analyzing Credit Risk
from both a planning and execution perspective, in turn, having a
strong impact on the Company's bottom line as well as on your
career path. This is a 10-week, full-time paid internship, which
will provide exposure to, and experience with, our Company's Credit
Risk team. Seeking someone to start in Summer 2023 and dedicate 40
hours/week for the duration of the internship. This is an in-office
position in our Carrollton, TX Corporate Office.
Responsibilities
- Apply theoretical and practical knowledge of statistical
analysis and machine learning techniques and tools to solve
business problems.
- Build / Deploy statistical models and advanced analytics into
TMX's Credit Decision Engine.
- Mine consumer loan data across multiple data environments
utilizing tools such as SQL, SAS, R, or other comparable data
mining tools.Acquire knowledge about the business problems
confronted by Credit Risk modeling in financial services and
collaborate with modeling team staff to analyze and solve those
problems.
- Partner with internal team of predictive modelers to develop
analytical models to analyze credit performance of borrowers
(payment delinquency, default patterns, profitability), and design
implementation strategies for these models.
- Learn about the business opportunities confronted by Credit
Risk modeling in financial services and collaborate with modeling
team staff to analyze and solve those problems with the opportunity
to apply analytic concepts in support of several potential
workstreams.
- Design tests and experiments to constantly refine risk models,
decision engine logic and pricing parameters.
- Create and deliver a PowerPoint presentation to the Risk Team
and Executive Leadership on key learnings and ideas for process
improvement at the end of internship.
- Source both internal and external data sources necessary to
optimize the performance of predictive models and scores.
Qualifications
- Ideal Candidate pursing Masters or PhD degree from a reputed
University in a quantitative discipline such as Finance, Economics,
Financial Engineering, Mathematical Sciences, Statistics, Data
Science, or MBA with Quantitative Focus. Exceptional candidates
pursuing or having completed relevant undergraduate four-year
degree programs may be considered
- Strong background in data mining and statistical analysis
- Proficiency in SQL for data manipulation, cleansing and
transformation
- Hands-on experience in data manipulation, data mining,
statistics, web analytics, and descriptive analytics
- Able to commit to a 10-week Summer program
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated, independent but collaborative, organized,
proactive, highly responsive, and flexible
- Experience in R, Python, SAS, or proven ability in other
statistical programming languages
- Advanced Excel user with ability to create pivot tables,
macros, and effective formulas
- Physical demands for this position frequently include: the
ability to remain in a stationary position, move about freely
inside and occasionally outside of the store, and the operation of
