PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To maintain, install and repair all district plumbing and related equipment in order to minimize interruption of the education process.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification
Journeyman Plumber's license (TX)
Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to operate backhoe and ditch trencher
Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
Knowledge of plumbing codes
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Preferred Experience:
6 (Six) years experience (internal or external) in plumbing trade with background in repair, remodeling, and new construction

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Maintenance and Repair

  • Clean sanitary sewer lines.
  • Repair water leaks.
  • Maintain all gas lines in safe condition and perform gas leaks tests as directed.
  • Repair drinking fountain fixtures.
  • Install new plumbing and domestic water systems as needed in existing facilities.
  • Maintain and repair sewage and sump pumps.
  • Maintain and repair hot water circulating pumps and hot water heaters.
  • Maintain and repair all restroom related plumbing.
  • Maintain and repair or remodel all kitchen related plumbing.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean
  • You might be asked to help other departments not necessary plumbing work Safety
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. EQUIPMENT USED:

    hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including forklift, trencher, backhoe;
    light truck or van

    WORKING CONDITIONS Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
    Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
    Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
    Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around gas lines; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
    Mental Demands: Ability to Read, ability to communicate effectively (verbal); ability to follow oral and written directions; Subject to frequent interruptions; Subject to frequent deadlines.
